THE ARTHUR W. DELAMONT FOUNDATION
AWARDS (Lifetime Achievement Award and Mentor Awards)

There is an opportunity for everyone to be remembered through the ARTHUR W. DELAMONT FOUNDATION.
There are two kinds of awards. The Lifetime Achievement Award is for music educators who have dedicated their lives to teaching music to youth. The Mentor Award however is different. Everyone can be remembered with a Mentor Award. What is a Mentor Award? A Mentor Award is an award presented to a deserving student who is pursuing excellence in music. Anyone can have a Mentor Award named after them if they played in a band and be remembered forever as having been influenced by music at some time in their lives.
For example:
*The Arnie Chycoski Award to a lead trumpet player in a high school jazz band who exemplifies having the potential for a career in jazz/popular music.
* The Bing Thom Award for a band student who wants to become an architect.
*The Keith Christie Award for the band student who wants to become an ambassador in the political arena.
* The Bob Rebagliati Award for a student drummer who wants to go on to be a high school band director.
What will any donations be used for? There are two types of donations, corporate and private.
Corporate donations will fund larger projects and be annual donations. They will fund:
*Our Concerts in the Parks Series. $100,000 is needed annually to fund this initiative. One hundred concerts will be scheduled from May through September in Vancouver parks. It is open to high school bands to get more visibility, earn some money and entertain crowds with live music. Each band receives $1000 per concert. Bands will be expected to conduct themselves accordingly in the spirit of Arthur Delamont. If a band doesn’t live up to expectations they will not be re-engaged.
*Major Fundraiser for 200 high school band programs 100 in B.C and 100 in Washington State. Amount needed is again $100,000 annually. This will print 100,000 copies of a luxury travel magazine and 500 copies given to each band to sell at $50 each raising $25,000 for each program. In total it will raise $5,000,000 for 200 band programs annually.
Private donations will fund smaller projects such as:
*The Mentor Awards, Lifetime Achievement Awards, keeping our books in print, storage, book launches and travel expenses related to the Mentor Awards. At this moment we are still formulating the Student Awards and how to select candidates.
